Shelly + 2E Electrical

Smart technology.
Hidden in plain sight.

Shelly lets us add smart control and energy monitoring to many of the electrical systems already in your home, often without changing the switches you use every day.

Make My Home Smarter

Installed and configured by 2E Electrical across Hamilton, Cambridge and Te Awamutu.

What is Shelly?

Professional smart control, in compact pieces.

You don't need a new home to have a smart home.

Shelly makes compact smart relays, controllers, energy meters and sensors that electricians can use to add automation and monitoring to a home.

Some devices can sit discreetly behind existing switches. Others can be installed near the equipment they control or neatly inside the electrical switchboard.

That means making a home smarter doesn't necessarily mean replacing all your switches, rewiring the house or filling every room with gadgets.

Retrofit My Home

For new homes and major renovations, we can also design smart control into the electrical installation from the beginning.

The little device behind the switch

The smart part can be almost invisible.

In many homes, a compact Shelly module can be installed behind an existing switch or near the equipment being controlled.

Your switch still works normally. The difference is that the circuit can now also respond to schedules, scenes, sensors, remote control and other automations.

Step 3

The same switch, now smarter

Examples of what that unlocks

  • Turn lights on at sunset
  • Turn selected lights off automatically
  • Add schedules
  • Create scenes
  • Control suitable circuits remotely
  • Respond to compatible sensors
  • Monitor energy where supported

Whether a module fits behind a particular switch depends on the wiring, the switch and the space available. We check each installation first and select equipment that suits it. Some situations are better handled at the equipment itself or at the switchboard.

What Shelly can control

From one circuit to the whole house.

Lighting

Make an ordinary light switch do more.

Depending on the installation, existing lighting can gain:

  • Sunset and sunrise schedules
  • Outdoor lighting
  • Dimming where suitable
  • Goodnight scenes
  • Occupancy control
  • Remote control
  • Holiday routines
Smart Lighting

Hot Water

Heat water at smarter times.

Depending on the installation, smart control can help coordinate suitable hot water systems around:

  • Household routines
  • Solar generation
  • Electricity pricing
  • Time schedules
  • Holidays and periods away
Smart Hot Water

Garage Doors & Gates

Did I actually shut the garage door?

For compatible systems, Shelly can form part of smart control and status monitoring for:

  • Garage doors
  • Driveway gates
  • Pedestrian gates
  • Entrance automation

Safety controls and the existing equipment always come first.

Garage Doors & Gates

Blinds & Curtains

Let the house respond to the day.

Compatible motorised blinds and curtains can be incorporated into automations based on:

  • Time
  • Sunrise
  • Sunset
  • Scenes
  • Household routines
Electric Blinds & Curtains

Heating

Heat the house when you need it.

Shelly can form part of the control strategy for suitable heating equipment and compatible systems:

  • Scheduling
  • Room routines
  • Away modes
  • Integration with other smart home actions

Compatibility varies between heating systems, so we check your equipment before recommending anything.

Heating & Heat Pumps

Outdoor Living

Make the outside of the house smarter too.

Suitable applications can include:

  • Deck lighting
  • Garden lighting
  • Outdoor heaters
  • Pumps
  • Water features
  • Irrigation
  • Entrance lighting
  • Other compatible electrical equipment

Energy Monitoring

See where your electricity is actually going.

Depending on the installation, Shelly energy monitoring equipment can measure suitable circuits individually, so you can see what each part of the house is using.

  • Whole house
  • Hot water
  • Heat pumps
  • Pool equipment
  • EV charging
  • Kitchen loads
  • Workshop
  • Solar
  • Other significant circuits

Pools & Spas

Stop running the pool on guesswork.

Depending on the existing equipment, suitable pool equipment can run to schedules instead of habit, including:

  • Pool pumps
  • Filtration schedules
  • Heating
  • Lighting
  • Associated electrical equipment
Pools & Spas

The switchboard

Some of the smartest parts of the house live in the switchboard.

Shelly's professional switchboard equipment gives us options for centrally installed control and energy monitoring, tidily mounted on DIN rails alongside your existing circuits.

That approach is particularly useful for:

  • Larger retrofits
  • Renovations
  • Architectural homes
  • New builds
  • Energy monitoring
  • Multiple controlled circuits

All switchboard work is carried out by licensed electricians, with the installation assessed, labelled and left safe.

Start small

Start with one thing.

You don't need to automate the whole house.

  • The towel rail everyone forgets
  • The outside lights
  • The pool pump
  • The hot water cylinder
  • The garage door
  • One room of lighting

If you like what it does, we can add more later.

What Should I Automate First?
An ordinary Hamilton family home, the kind of house this technology suits

No show home required. This technology suits normal, existing Hamilton homes just as well as architectural new builds.

A smart home example

What could be smarter in a typical Hamilton home?

Every home is different, but this gives an idea of the places smart control can quietly fit into a house like yours.

Shelly and solar

Your house can respond to your solar.

Solar generation changes throughout the day. Smart control gives us options to operate suitable loads when your home has electricity available.

  • Hot water
  • Pool filtration
  • Pool heating
  • EV charging where supported
  • Suitable appliances
  • Heating and cooling strategies

How much of this is possible depends on your solar system, your switchboard and the circuits involved. We assess it with you rather than promising a one size fits all result.

It still works like a house

No app required to turn on a light.

A smart home shouldn't become harder to use.

Where practical, we keep familiar physical controls working normally. Visitors, children, grandparents and babysitters should still be able to walk into a room and use the house without learning an app.

The automation sits quietly in the background.

Real life scenes

The house responds to real life.

  • Blinds open
  • Selected lights come on
  • Towel rails switch off
  • Heating adjusts
  • The house gets ready with you

Integrations

Flexible by design.

Shelly supports integration with a range of smart home platforms and protocols, depending on the hardware selected and the installation.

We'll recommend the right combination based on what you actually want the house to do.

Not every Shelly device works with every platform. We match the equipment to the outcome, and we'll always explain the options in plain language.

New builds

Building new? Start smart.

A new home gives us the opportunity to plan lighting, blinds, heating, energy monitoring, solar, EV charging and automation as part of the electrical design from the beginning.

We work with homeowners, builders, architects and designers across Hamilton, Cambridge and Te Awamutu.

Common questions

Good to know.

What is Shelly?

Shelly is a brand of professional smart relays, energy meters, controllers and sensors that we install and recommend. The equipment lets the electrical systems already in your home be controlled, automated and monitored. Smart Homes Hamilton is the service brand, 2E Electrical is the electrical contractor, and Shelly is the technology we install.

Do I need to rewire my house to use Shelly?

In most cases, no. Compact Shelly modules can often be installed behind existing switches, near the equipment being controlled, or at the switchboard. We check your installation first and recommend the approach that suits it.

Will my normal switches still work?

Yes. The smart layer is added alongside your normal switches, so family, visitors and anyone without a phone can still use the house the way they always have.

Can Shelly work with my heat pump?

It depends on the system. Shelly can form part of the control strategy for suitable heating equipment and compatible systems. We check your equipment before recommending anything, rather than promising universal compatibility.

Can Shelly monitor my power use?

Yes. Selected Shelly energy monitoring equipment can measure suitable circuits individually, such as the whole house, hot water, heat pumps, pool equipment, EV charging or solar.

Smart Homes Hamilton is an independent installer of Shelly products and is not affiliated with or operated by Shelly.
